Jerald Cook MD, MS, FACOEM
Med Fit Consulting was established in 2011 by Jerald Cook, MD. The business began with online coaching of Ironman athletes, and gradually became what it is today. We opened our brick and mortar location in San Diego in 2017 so that physical examinations could be provided. Dr. Cook is a veteran of 32 years in the Navy, finishing his career as a board certified occupational medicine and preventive medicine physician. He served 13 years in the Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program, onboard fast attack submarines, before commissioning into the Navy Nurse Corps. He then transferred to the Navy Medical Corps and went to medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.
Following medical school, he completed an internship in psychiatry at Naval Medical Center San Diego, and then residency training in occupational and environmental medicine at the University of California at Irvine. He also obtained his MS in environmental toxicology from the UC Irvine School of Medicine. He is dual board-certified in occupational medicine specialties and public health and general preventive medicine, and a fellow of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
He routinely examines and treats workers with musculoskeletal injuries and those with potential exposures to chemicals, infectious diseases, physical hazards, and occupational stress. His work includes routine worksite inspections and ones following incidents requiring investigations. He is an expert in disability and making decisions regarding challenging return to work and fitness for work assessments for injured and impaired workers.
Dr. Cook is an avid athlete, having completed 10 Ironman triathlons.
